Creating an environment that promotes student talk.
Chapin and O'Connor
Presentation -HES
Rachel introduced us to Math Talk Moves. We investigated using them with Problem solving activities. She challenged us to identify and use open-ended problems to enrich our student discussion, promoting student voice and strategy use. This seems a perfect way to promote student voice within my class. Finding tools to promote student discussion and sharing, reducing my input is my goal for the year.
She left us with a challenge!
I discussed with colleagues the use of Thinkboards that I had introduced with Problem solving in my classroom. I will add an example into maths resources for all to access. Good tool to generate discussion and provides a visual for those that need the structure. Can be used at any level.
