27th January - Martin Hughes
Meaningful. Memorable. Motivational.
Technology in education ...how it can help teachers...? Martin will be showing us how to get the most out of technology, everything will be able to be done on three clicks.
Do we get better results for learners by working even harder? We can't improve results simply by doing more hours. All this does is burn us out.
Think differently. Use different language.
Challenges we face with technology:
Hard to collaborate and co-construct and plan
Hard to use effectively
Hard to find stuff
Challenged by variation
Overwhelmed by technology.
Challenges for students:
Encourages behaviours we don't value
Hard to access at school/home
Hard to find stuff
Hard to find ICT effective for learning
challenged by variations
Current (deluded) beliefs
We have to be time poor and stress rich!
Low level, time sucking, administrative tasks are unavoidable
We need more meetings
The Pareto principle
In order to use technology effectively we have to be a geek.
Three steps: Tame the technology. Tame the admin. Improve pedagogy.
SAMR
Substitution
Augmentation
Modification
Redefinition.
We need to be able to ask students 'what are you learning, why are you learning it, why are you using technology'?
Create. Consume. Connect.
Differentiation. Scaffolding. Feedback
