Sketching - whispering, talking, shouting pencil
Observational drawing challenge
Draw an outline of the model in three differing height poses eg, sitting, on one knee, standing. overlay them on one piece of large paper. Then colour using the overlay pattern outlines.
Live model.
Place a large selection of materials out and let students explore how they will present their own art piece. We had a complete range of materials; straw, coloured paper, tissue, glue for collage, dye, pastels, paint, sharpies, black, grey, white paper. The result was an extensive range of works. People created close observations of the chicken head or eye, through to works with material showing nest or cage and straw. Really interesting to then reflect as a group about all of our works and discuss what was used and why. Great lesson to get children using and thinking about art materials and their different uses/purposes.
