The first 1000 days of your life your brain is in data gathering mode - questioning if you inherit intelligence. Society assumes - literature challenges it.
How many genes you have does not reflect the complexity.
There are no genes identified with intelligence. the closest gene they found is one that affects your mental state, these are inherited from your mother! Genetic potential of genes does not mean they are triggered.

Science - Epigenetics - how genes are designed to interact with the environment.
Each generation changes to met the environment, not evolution as that takes thousands of years. Children that are taller than parents, great-grandfather had the gene to grow to 6ft 4, but didn’t because of the environment. But sons, son, will meet the potential.

So where does your intelligence come from? Statistically the eldest child is the most likely to be the highest income earner and higher qualified. Why? If genetic that suggests that eldest gets the best genes! Ridiculous.
The data you gather is based on the number of face to face interactions you gather from your main care giver in the first year. Baby has to attach to someone then attune to them. Directly over the top of the baby doesn’t count, only attuned to them. For example, a mother speaks directly face to face in maori to baby but interacts with others in english. Baby only understands maori.
Current prams have babies facing outwards 2%, if facing parent 98% of development.
Te Whariki - Attachment is the most vital. Every child needs one person who is crazy about them.
Intelligence does not really come from genes.
Rich dialogue environment in the first 3 years.
Risk and resilience scale.
Risks are what lead to bad outcomes, prison, no education, single parent, being smacked, more that 5 kids...
Resilience leads to good outcomes. Paying parent to stay home for first 3 years, playing a musical instrument, speaking more than one language, close relationship with grandparents education...
Primary carer version of child carer better than industrial version where baby is moved between carers.
What to 3 year olds need to learn Nathan Mikaere-Wallis
So what?
The ever challenging conflict of what we as carers and professionals would like to be teaching our classes, and meeting the ever looming shadow of National Standards requirements.
What next?
Relationships are the key to all learning. Making what we do at HES even more important.
Continue to recognise the specific and diverse needs of our students, particularly those with low oral language. Keep trying to find ways to provide them with rich learning opportunities that will challenge them and develop resilience.
